The
Ethnographic Park & Botanical Garden Pirámides de Güímar
is a large open-air museum and one of the five official botanical gardens of the Canary Islands.
The Park was founded in 1998 by the renowned Norwegian researcher
Thor Heyerdahl
, who was responsible for safeguarding the pyramids from an urban development plan.
In addition to the pyramids, the Park includes
four outdoor trails and specialized gardens
, spread over more than
64,000m2.
The routes allow visitors to stroll freely through the extensive gardens, discovering interesting aspects of Canarian culture and nature.
These routes include a Canarian Botanical Route, a Cultural Route and a Volcanic Route.
The facilities also include the Casa Chacona Museum and an Auditorium.
As for its botanical collections, you can visit the
Poison Garden
, unique in Spain, and the
Sustainable Garden,
a reproduction of a Canarian ravine, including a watercourse and presenting the characteristic flora of these environments in a sustainable way.
The
Tropicarium
shows the life strategies used by orchids and insectivorous plants to survive in tropical conditions.
The Park was the winner of the '
Best Overall Sustainable Tourism Practice 2021
' award for the island of Tenerife and a national finalist in the
'Remarkable Venue Awards 2022'
in the Best Hidden Gem category, which highlights the most outstanding and special places for travelers from all over the world.
The Park has also been awarded the
Biosphere Committed
distinction for its sustainable commitment and is a member of the
Climate Heritage Network.
The Ethnographic Park & Botanical Garden Pirámides de Güímar offers a unique outdoor experience, without crowds of people thanks to its 30,000m2 of accessible garden areas, allowing culture and nature lovers to enjoy a day outdoors in a different, safe and sustainable environment.
